Vol 1 from the Writings of Lafcadio Hearn.
This is the 1922 edition published by Houghton Mifflin, signed by Hearns wife on the front plate, followed by the original manuscript insert written in Hearns own hand:
"-out stopping until she reached the house of the parents of the other Kinume from Utarigori."
Perhaps an early draft (?) of Before the Supreme Court, found in A Japanese Miscellany, which in publication read:
"But she escaped from them, and ran on without stopping, until she came to Utarigori, and to the house of the family of the dead Kinume."
Unfortunately, the binding has suffered significant damage over the years. The pages, however, are clean (in their original uncut state).
*Please note that this listing is only for Vol 1 (not the entire 16 volume set).
Although the 1973 reprint appears in Jinbocho from time to time, the original manuscript edition appears to be exceedingly rare in Japan.
